HILARY MALONE (Diploma in Culinary Arts, BA) – recipe development + kitchen lead
The fearless cook in our family, Hilary holds a Diploma in Culinary Arts from Vancouver Island University and has honed her skills at some of the region’s finest eateries. Passionate about horticulture, Hilary enjoys tending to her beloved vegetable garden and apple orchard – with the help of her four-legged assistant, Olive the Labradinger.


ALISON MALONE EATHORNE (MA, BA, BEd) – communications lead
A writer, editor and communications specialist focused on food, travel and interior design, Alison holds a Master of Arts and has been published in magazines such as Pacific Yachting, Western Living, BC Home and Where Vancouver. Alison enjoys visiting the Vancouver Island region’s farmers’ markets, food artisans, caf├ęs and beaches with her husband and two little boys in tow.




A team of two sisters, we have been passionate about cooking for as long as we can remember. Born and raised on Vancouver Island, we learned to cook at the knee of our mother, Lorna; it was her dream of writing a cookbook for sailors that lead to the publishing of our first book, Sea Salt: Recipes from the West Coast Galley. Enjoyed by boaters and home cooks alike, our award-winning book celebrates the food and lifestyle of the Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands region, which we call home. Through our boutique catering business, Sea Salt Food Company, we are delighted to share our approach to fresh, West Coast fare with residents and visitors to this beautiful part of the world.
